Answer:

If your boiler was installed prior to 2003, you could save a third on your heating bills and reduce your home's CO2 emissions by 800 kilograms a year.

Question:

How are high-efficiency condensing boilers more efficient than standard efficiency boilers?

Answer:

High efficiency condensing boilers capture and use much of the heat that old non condensing boilers waste and release into the atmosphere. Condensing boilers convert approx 90% of fuel into useful heating, where as old conventional boilers only convert approx 60% and waste the rest. All new gas boilers in England and Wales must be condensing boilers.

How much can I save by reducing my heating and water temperatures?

Answer:

Reducing your room temperature by 1ºC could cut your heating bills by 10%. Setting your water cylinder temperature to less than 60ºC and fitting thermostatic mixing valves will also help save money.

Can I tip or tilt my Oil tank to get more oil out before refilling it?

Answer:

This is not advisable because dirt from the tank can block up pipes and could seriously damage your boiler. The tank pipes could also be damaged and leak oil which is costly to clean up and your local authority could penalise you for environmental contamination.

Question:

Do i have to replace my Oil tank when i upgrade my boiler?

Answer:

There is no legal requirement to replace your tank, but you will be advised at the time if it is does not meet current legislation by one of our OFTEC Technichans along with the options open to you. Older tanks are obviously more prone to leaks than modern plastic tanks, Bunded tanks are the safest for the environment as they contain an inner tank with in an outer shell.

How can I reduce the cost of buying my heating oil?

Answer:

Many people are deciding to organise syndicates or just grouping together with a few neighbours to order in bulk, the advantage of this is you can order one complete tanker and get reduced delivery costs and a cheaper price per litre.
